Microbiome and Health: Unlocking the Secrets of Gut Microbes | Dr. Barbara Weiss, ND (2026)

Get ready for an eye-opening journey into the world of microbes and their incredible impact on our bodies!

The Microbial Mystery: Unveiling the Secrets of Our Health

On January 27th, 2026, the Northumberland PACE Speakers Series kicks off with a fascinating talk titled "Mood, Metabolism, Immunity: Meet the Microbes Behind It All." This virtual event, hosted on Zoom, will feature the renowned Dr. Barbara Weiss, a Naturopathic Doctor with a wealth of knowledge and experience.

But here's where it gets controversial... or at least, eye-opening! We often think of microbes as something to avoid, but Dr. Weiss will show us how these tiny organisms, living inside and on our bodies, are crucial to our overall health and well-being. From digestion to mood, these microbes play a powerful, yet often overlooked, role.

"I'm thrilled to have Dr. Weiss lead this conversation," says Dr. Mukesh Bhargava, an Internal Medicine Specialist. "Her expertise will help us understand the correlation between our microbiome and our health, and offer insights on how we can improve our gut health."

With over twenty years of clinical experience, Dr. Weiss has dedicated her career to gastrointestinal health, hormonal health, and healthy aging. She's also an active member of the community, serving as Chair of the Community Health Centers of Northumberland and as part of the Governance Advisory Council for the Ontario Health Team – Northumberland.

The Northumberland PACE Speakers Series, launched in 2018, offers a unique platform for exploring health and wellness topics. Each month, community members, health providers, and caregivers come together for an hour-long virtual event, with a 30-minute presentation followed by a 20-minute Q&A session. It's a free, informative series, presented by a collaboration of local health organizations and patients.

During this PACE talk, audience members are encouraged to submit questions beforehand by emailing mbhargava@imcare.ca, or ask live during the event. The presentation will be recorded and made available on the NHH website for those who can't attend live. So, mark your calendars for February 26th, 2026, at 5:30 PM, and join us for this enlightening conversation!

And this is the part most people miss... the impact of our microbiome on our health is a complex, fascinating topic. So, after the talk, I encourage you to reflect: What steps can we take to nurture our microbial friends and, in turn, improve our overall health? Share your thoughts and let's spark a conversation!
